Breaking Ashfield Mall: Dan Murphy’s installed with no DA, no notice, no consultation — plus two years of unresolved HVAC noise. Read the alert

What you need to know

  1. No DA, no consultation: A full‑scale Dan Murphy’s is being installed inside Ashfield Mall with no Development Application on the public register and no community consultation.
  2. Two years of unresolved noise: Residents have endured ongoing HVAC and refrigeration noise from the mall for two years, including low‑frequency hums, night‑time vibration and sleep disturbance — with no effective action taken.
  3. Four flawed acoustic reports: Council and Woolworths have commissioned four acoustic reports, all conducted under conditions that do not meet EPA Noise Guidelines — including winter assessments that avoid worst‑case noise. Inner West Council, Ashfield Mall and the Mintus Group have had since 4 September to conduct a proper acoustic report on a fluctuating hum, yet continue to favour winter testing. It has taken Council staff and the General Manager nearly two years to realise they are not qualified and do not have the equipment required to assess the noise properly.

Contact your councillors and complain

If you are affected by the Ashfield Mall Dan Murphy’s installation or ongoing HVAC noise, contact your Inner West councillors and ask why this has been allowed to proceed with no DA, no consultation, and no proper noise compliance.

Ask them directly:

  • Why was a major liquor outlet allowed with no DA on the public register?
  • Why were residents not notified or consulted?
  • Why have two years of HVAC noise and four flawed acoustic reports been accepted?
  • What action will you take to protect residents now?

You can find phone numbers and email addresses for all Inner West councillors on the official Council website under “Council > Your Council > Councillors”.
